its purplish and the stem is sort of waxy feeling. it grows in clusters and it has a lot of petals that are all poky.

Reply:I think you are talking about the columbine, which is the state flower of colorado. Just do a web search for rocky mountain columbine and you will find many websites with photos of this flower.
