What is the name of this yellow flower?

We ate a couple of times at this restaurant called Il Camino between Terni and Spoleto in Umbria. One night they gave us a little thing of flowers. It was yellow and the flowers were small and kind of poofy. I meant to ask what it was called, but forgot. It seemed like they grew sort of like baby's breath. Any clue what it might be called?

What is the name of this yellow flower?
I think you were given "mimosa": They are one of the first flowers of spring here in Italy and they are usually given out on March 8th, women's day. Here is a picture:

http://www.greenquest.com/mainvert/fleur...
Reply:i think i know what your talking about. but its not clear, i mean these flowers you were given were edible or non edible? the ones i think you are talking about are non edible are given in some what like branches of them not one by one. the custom is that every woman is given one on the Day of the Women, which is celebrated i think in april, or around that period. so its common to see the ladies walking aroudn holding one on that special day. however, if i knew the name of the flower, id tell you, but if it comes to mind later on ill write it down.
Reply:the only flower i can think of, which is also yellow and a little bit poofy is taraxacum. which is eatable in salads and soups but mostly it's leaves are tasty. try to be more specific explaining how is that flower, maybe i will remember something ells, if no, i can cheek it for u in here.

try to copy the name of the flower and cheek if u recognize it in the images of yahoo.

Nice Nasturtiums

Watercress is cultivated mainly in Southern England and can also be found near fast-flowing streams. It is available all year round and its pungent peppery flavour adds a kick to salads.

* maybe its erba iva??? that is a small small flower yellow and wight, it has a great tast, bitter-sweet and u can put it in soups and salads and mostly fix a great alpin tea?

* or.... hehehe achillea????

* what the last answer u have recived is talking about is the mimosa, but it's not eatable.
Reply:I'm guessing but it was possibly courgette flowers as they are quite a delicacy in Italy. Usually they're dipped in a light batter and quickly deep fried. Not sure what baby's breath is.

Update: Ah, if they're tiny, probably not what I suggested then.
Reply:Another possible answer is "nasturtiums", a yellow or orange flower. They grow almost like a weed, very quickly, that is. They don't have a sweet scent, but they have a beautiful flower...

Is there a plant or flower named Dewey?

My sweet dog is old and dying. He is being put to rest on Thursday. His name is Dewey. I was wondering if there is a plant or flower named Dewey that I could plant next to him? Does anyone know?

Is there a plant or flower named Dewey?
So sorry. Thats a sweet thing you are doing. Here is what I found along with the sites.

A plant named "Dewey Blue". It's Ornamental grass.

A plant named "Dewey's sedge" It's Perennial Grass-like.
Reply:no but I'm sorry to hear about your loss
Reply:"Dewey Blue" is the common nickname for an ornamental beach grass (Panicum amarum). It grows to about 3 feet tall and has pretty blue flowers at the end of the summer. It usually grows in sandy locations from coastal Connecticut down to Florida. If you live in a climate that can tolerate it, you can plant it in a sandy container, rather than directly in the ground. Your local garden supply center probably has an assortment of attractive containers.

I am very sorry for the loss of your dog, I hope this information helps.

Please name me all the colors possible an amaryllis flower can be.?

Here's a website with pictures of the different colors: http://www.royalcolors.com/index.php?nav... Depending on where you shop, you may find flower colors such as raspberry, peach, salmon, and orange along with the traditional red, pink, and white.

"Flowers may be solid colors or brightened up with a stripe of white" . "Some have petal edges or throats with a contrasting color.

"In addition to the single forms, there are doubles, too, which have more layers of overlapping flower petals or their centers are frilled."

One example, is 'Dancing Queen', a double with up to five layers of ruffled red and white petals which look like a petticoat.

A new class of Amaryllis is Cybister, which has slender, exotic, spidery flowers. An example of this is 'Ruby Meyer' with its thin, ruby-red petals with chartreuse markings.

"Another group, Trumpet Amaryllis, has flowers that resemble an Easter lily, though with smaller flowers, and may also have a light fragrance," . "Other new choices include miniatures, which are smaller, shorter plants."

Please name me all the colors possible an amaryllis flower can be.?
White through various shades of pink and red; also orange and salmon colours, along with deep burgundy and even picotees and striped flowers.
Reply:According to this website, there are several types of Amaryllis:

From where does the name of the flower narcissus come?

A youth of Greek mythology called Narcissus, who, in at least one of many variations of the tale, became so obsessed with his own reflection as he kneeled and gazed into a pool of water that he fell into the water and drowned. The legend continues that the Narcissus plant first sprang from where he died.

From where does the name of the flower narcissus come?
A greek myth about a guy named narcissus who was in love with him self. One day he was looking at a pond and saw his reflection and stared at it. This goddess or nymph ( can't remember) liked him and tried to talk to him, but he was too into himself to notice her so she got mad %26amp; turned him into the flower. It's also where the word narcisist (? spelling) came from.
Reply:The Narcissus flower is named after Narcissus. This was after he supposedly turned into a flower when he died, by looking at himself in the water too long. This forced him to stay there, because he was the god of beauty and he could only fall in love with himself; he later died of despair as he could not grasp the 'stranger' in the water

I don't list the common names because there is great confusion over what is French lavender and what is Spanish lavender. Better to stick with botanical names on this one!

"Spanish Lavender is probably what the ancient Greeks and Romans used to scent their bath water. Indeed the word Lavender is from Latin lavare (to wash). Spanish Lavender is often referred to in older publications as French Lavender (which, today, is how we refer to L. dentata)." - Mountain Valley Growers website

Does anyone know the name of dark green leafy plant that grows large white flower from edge of leaf?

I saw this plant in the waiting area of a nail salon and it is the most unique looking plant I have ever seen. I tried asking the salon owners for the name of the plant, but they didn't know.

The leaves are a bit "ruffled" as in, not flat. The flower grew from a thick stem that sprouted from the edge of the leaf. The flower is about 6-7 inches in diameter and if you look closely, it almost looks like there is a tongue inside. Once the bud began to bloom, it fully bloomed in a very short time.

What is the name of the largest flower?

Rafflesia arnoldii

rare flower found in the rainforests of Indonesia. can grow to be 3 feet across and weigh up to 15 pounds! A parasitic plant, with no visible leaves, roots, or stem. It attaches itself to a host plant to obtain water and nutrients. When in bloom, the Rafflesia emits a repulsive odor, similar to that of rotting meat. This odor attracts insects that pollinate the plant.

What is the name of the largest flower?
titan arum (Amorphophallus titanum)

One of the most spectacular plants to be found in the wet tropics zone of the Princess of Wales Conservatory is the titan arum. With its huge flowering structure (inflorescence) rising some 3m above the ground and its single immense leaf, it certainly is a giant among plants, as its name suggests. Coupled with its characteristic foul stench, and the rarity of flowerings, this plant has always hit the headlines.

The mango (plural mangoes or mangos)(Hindi:啶嗋ぎ, Marathi:啶嗋啶ぞ, Sanskrit:啶嗋ぎ啷嵿ぐ, Malayalam: manga) is a tropical fruit of the mango tree.

Mangoes belong to the genus Mangifera which consists of about 30 species of tropical fruiting trees in the flowering plant family Anacardiaceae.

The exact origins of the mango are unknown, but most believe that it is native to Southern and Southeast Asia owing to the wide range of genetic diversity in the region and fossil records dating back 25 to 30 million years.

How did the flower Baby's Breath get it's name?

Baby's Breath got it's name from it's smell. It is almost a sweet, putrid smell. Some people love the smell but, as a florist, I can tell you that it get's old quick. It is a very, very distinct smell that is only associated with this flower.

:) Ms. Orchid

How did the flower Baby's Breath get it's name?
"GYPSOPHILA-Baby's Breath is very fond of limestone soils. Its name is derived from "gupsos," "gypsum" and "phileo," "to love."

It is a small and delicate flower--as delicate as a baby's breath.

UPDATE: looking at your new photo, I'm going to say Aechmea (Aechmea fasciata or a hybrid probably) instead of Puya. Both Aechmea and Puya are bromeliads. You're much more likely to find Aechmea in this country, though, and you can easily grow it in a pot, unlike many Puyas.

It's not a dahlia--that's a spike with multiple buds. Dahlias are individual flowers. If you look at the buds you can also see that it has 3 petals. This would make it a monocot. Most garden flowers, including dahlias are dicots. Lilies and orchids are examples of monocots.

My guess is that it's a bromeliad, specifically a Puya. Bromeliads are from the pineapple family, and there are more than 100 species of Puya, so if it is a Puya it may be hard to track down the particular species.

Among the things that make me think it's a Puya are the vivid and contrasting colors on the flower spike. A lot of Puya flowers have colors that you don't normally find (see the first photo below)--there are very few blue orchids for example. On Puyas a number of flowers are arranged on a large spike. Like the mystery flower, Puyas have only 3 petals.

The flowers and flower spikes look so different between different species, but here are two examples. I think it looks sort of like the second one (Puya venusta):

http://ecran.fond.free.fr/austral/au_puy...

What is the scientific name of the flower Rafflesia Arnoldi?

Thank You (:

%26lt;3

What is the scientific name of the flower Rafflesia Arnoldi?
it is Rafflesia arnoldii .

Rafflesia, among the world's largest flowers, belong to the family Rafflesiaceae. The plant family Rafflesiaceae has eight genera which includes the genus Rafflesia. Rafflesia arnoldi, that grows up to 150 cm in diameter, is the largest flower in the world. It was discovered by Sir Stamford Raffles and Dr Joseph Arnold on 19 May 1818.

Origin and distribution

Raffles and Arnold were touring the west coast of Sumatra in Borneo around the Manna river when their guide, excited and surprised, came to them with the news of having seen a very huge flower. The gigantic flower was named Rafflesia arnoldi by Raffles to commemorate his friendship with Arnold. Rafflesia sightings were reported much earlier though. Louis Auguste Deschamp, a French surgeon-naturalist, reported having seen the Rafflesia in 1797 in Java. Prior to both discoveries, the aborigines who had known about its presence were using Rafflesia for medicinal purposes. Since 1821, 24 Rafflesia species names have been published though not all of them are taxonomically resolved and identified.

Reply:You're close already - it's Rafflesia arnoldii (you're missing the last "i" in the species name). Also, the species name (arnoldii) should never be capilalized.

The ovule becomes the seeds. They are found in the ovary which becomes the fruit.

What is the name of the flower/plant is shown in this vase?

http://www.chiasso.com/store/item.aspx?I...

What is the name of the flower/plant is shown in this vase?
They are stems of a "Silver Dollar Plant" or, also known as, "Money Plant" and "Honesty". What you see are the dried seed pods. Its latin name is "Lunaria Annua". It is more commonly an annual and can be invasive in the garden. The papery silver-dollar sized disks are revealed when you rub off the outer part of the seed pod after you see the seeds start to turn brown. They are frquenty used in dried arrangements, just as seen in your link.
Reply:It is called Money Plant, or Honesty. Lunaria. Those are the seed pods and they look like silver coins.Very tough and easy to grow from seed.
Reply:The money plant (lunaria annua).

Its a Cineraria (Sinecio Hybridus) 100% positive :-) It comes in various colours of pink ,white and blue ,some striped some not. Google this name in images and you will see it
Reply:daffodils
Reply:A type of Mum.
Reply:It might be Cinneria

http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/26522...
Reply:It might be an Aster as well. Gerber Daisy's have much longer stems then what you see here and their petals are longer.
Reply:The plant structure looks a lot like a gerbera daisy. They come in a variety of colors, although I'm not sure I've ever seen this particular variety before, but the leaves and the way the flowers come out looks like them.
Reply:I'm gonna guess cinneraria as well, though it is hard to tell from such a closeup shot. If I could see the entire plant a little less close up it would help. I know it is not a daffodil though and also am sure it is not a gerbera daisy. Aster is a possibility too as there are so many varieties and some look a bit like this picture. Where does it grow?
Reply:Gazania -

http://www.flickr.com/photos/auntiep/278...

This very easy to grow annual, also know as treasure flower thrives in full sun. Growing only 8-10 inches tall, plants can be spaced as close as 6-8 inches. Versatile, it is perfect for those areas where it is difficult to grow other annuals. They are perfect in hot, dry sites such as sunny bank or by driveways, along paths or at the beach. Summer droughts are no problem! Plants spread rapidly and are equally at home trailing from your favorite containers. They perform best in a well-drained soil. In the fall, bring indoors, place in a bright sunny window and use as a houseplant.

It's definitely not a daffodil or a gerber. I think the blooms on the cinneria are smaller and the leaves much larger than those of gazania. Another idea - calendula.

But I'm standing behind gazania.
Reply:Did you take this pic? The blossoms are really pretty. I can't see the leaves so it's difficult to tell what it is. Definitely not daffodils.

Could be chrysanthemums but it would be easier if I could see the leaves. In the meantime, take some more gorgeous pics.

The Muse
Reply:It appears to be in the Chrysanthemum, Daisy family!! =)
Reply:I agree with Esmerelda the plant looks like Gerbera and I've never seen one this color. At first I thought it might be a clever florists dye job, but the petal roots show color. Who knows, I don't. RScott

Does anybody no the name of the flower that "lives forever"?

Absolutely. I googled my suspicion: sempervivum. Semper means always and vivum means lively. One sempervivum is the succulent called hen and chicks or houseleek. Go ahead, google if you don't believe me. By the way, sempervirens means always green or evergreen.

Can you name a colorful Flower that Lasts Please?
Wow, there are lots ....... my favorites are daisies, rhododendrons, lillies, bluebells, azaleas ........ = )
Reply:Most annuals are colorful and will bloom for a long time.

Petunias - they are a viny type and make good edgers - full sun. Gerbera daisies come in all colors, Daylilies - bright golds and yellows. Poppies are also very colorful. These flowers like lots of sun and you should plant lots of them for a dramatic effect.
Reply:A knockout rose will bloom from spring to first frost. Knockout roses come in many different colors, red, pink, yellow and a multi color redish orange and yellow. Make sure you deadhead the rose when flower falls off. To do this you cut the stem of the bloom off.
Reply:there are lots of flowers to choose from the question is how big or small do you want them to be an where are you placing them?
Reply:Sunflowers are colorful, and if you take care of them they can last.

You don't need to purchase a kit. Check out http://www.chefgarnish.com/ and become a member for just $24.00 a year. You get to download carving patterns and video clips of the latest techniques, as well as view the newest resources in culinary art!

What is another name for the stem of a flower?

What is another name for the stem of a flower?
The peduncle is the stem of a solitary flower, or the main stem in a cluster of flowers. In clustered flowers, the branches of the peduncle (the stems of the individual flowers) are pedicels.

What is another name for the stem of a flower?
peduncle
Reply:The main stalk for the flower is the peduncle but if the inflorescence is branched like a lilac or a hydrangea the stalk supporting a single flower in the inflorescence is a pedicel.

If the flower has no stalk but grows directly from the plant it is caulescent. The Redbud tree has flower buds on old growth that are caulescent.

I need the name of a flower my sister gave me. She snapped the stems and told me to stick them in the ground.
I will be glad to help if you could send us a photo of the flower. Most of your hard wood flowers will root when stuck in the ground. If it was a type of bush then it could be a variety of plants.
Reply:you would need to describe the flower you are talking about..there are hundreds of them that you can replant the way you described
Reply:A little more information is required, there are THOUSANDS OF PLANTS OUT THERE,
Reply:With no description of the flower, can't give a name. Many plants can be rooted in soil and water.
Reply:it must be forsythia you just break a stem ans stick it it soil and job done. it will grow the next spring it has yellow flowers first and then leaves.
Reply:Then they must be roses. My friend did that and told me to get them in the ground quick. I have three lovely rose bushes from them.

Do you know the name of this blue flower?

I can't find a pic of it anywhere but it is almost a teal colour. Its shape is similar to a Bird of Paradise, I think but it is much smaller. I thought it might be a type of tropical flower that is dyed blue but I am not sure... all I know that it is a much different blue than most 'blue' flowers like hydrangeas, etc. Names and/or links to pictures would be greatly appreciated as I am using a dark teal as one of my wedding flowers and I thought it might look good for the boutonnieres.

Do you know the name of this blue flower?
Is it a lily or orchid?
Reply:Maybe a blue freesia, maybe a delphinium...you should probably go to a florist and ask because you'll need to order something they can get and they can suggest a lot of things.

How can I find the name of my thornless rose bush from just the description of the flower?

The flowers start off cream colored, but as they age, they get almost deep ruby red to pink streaks and pink coloring in the petals. New growth is a deep ruby red, and it is definitely nearly 99% thornless. My bush is over five feet tall, and almost as wide. If anyone wants more details, and thinks they have an answer, I can also email them a picture of both the shrub and the flowers at their different stages.

How can I find the name of my thornless rose bush from just the description of the flower?
Unfortunately finding a name of any rose is quite difficult because there are sooooo many. But with some luck, you may get lucky!

Your best bet is to:

a) post a picture here and see what results you get,

b) contact your local rose garden club and see if they can help,

c) post a picture at the gardenweb forum and see what results you get (www.gardenweb.com go to forums, garden web galleries, name that plant...),

d) contacting some rose nurseries (try www.ashdownroses.com, www.heirloomroses.com, www.antiqueroseemporium.com)

It would help if you knew about the rose...How old is it? Did you plant it? Does it have a scent? Do you know what type of rose it is...Things like that.

Hope this helps! :)
Reply:There is a contact area on this site about thornless roses.
