My boss just got a plant that I think is really nice but doesn't know the name of the plant. I want one like it but since none of us knows the name I can't find the plant and it's driving me crazy. The flowers of the plant and tall with white petals, that look like it's only on side and exposes a yellow (gold) stigma. I hope I'm making sense. Someone please help.
Can Someone help me find the name of a flower?

Or a Peace Lily or a Spath........a peace lily or a spath have alot of greenery and bloom from time to time, not a constant bloom
Reply:Sounds like Cala Lily and they do come in various colors..
Check out this site, hope it helps

Reply:If it was delivered by a flower shop, look on the back of the card to determine which shop it should be stamped with their name. Call them and ask what it is. It sounds as if it may be a amyrillis plant.
Reply:Sounds to me like a Calaydium, I probably did not spell that correctly. Bye

Use the previous website and describe your plant and hopefully it will tell you the name. Also, you can use their plant finder A-Z. Which seemed like alot of work. Also you could bring a clipping of the flower and leaf to any local garden shop, (florist would work too) and they would be able to help you.
Good luck!
Reply:it could be Canterbury Bells or it could be Calla Lily White. But i'm pretty sure, with the description you gave, it's Calla Lily White. hope this helps.
Reply:Peace Lily, spathiphyllum is the botanical name.

What the name for the flower/plant also known as "bride's bouquet"?
I've been reading LM Montgomery, where she refers to a garden flower (or possibly flowering shrub) as "bride's bouquet".
I can't find it on the Internet ... does anyone know what plant she means?
The novel was published during the 1930s.
What the name for the flower/plant also known as "bride's bouquet"?
Porana paniculata (Bridal Bouquet, Christ Vine, Snow Creeper, Snow-in-the-Jungle, White Corallita): Liane to 9m. Lvs cordate, to 15 cm, slender-acuminate, white-pubesc. beneath. Pan. large, pendulous; flowers to 8mm, white, tubular-campanulate. Summer. N India, Upper Burm.
Porana: In the Convolvulaceae family. 20 slender, twining herbs or shrubs. Flowers small, in term. pan. or cymes or solitary, 1 or more sep. enlarged; tubular-campanulate to funnelform, lobes broad, spreading, plicate. Trop. Asia, Aus. Z10.
Sorry for the scientific description it came out of my botanical book! Here's a link for a picture, scroll down to Convolvulaceae and find Porana: http://www.virtualherbarium.org/gl/famtm...
Hope this helps! (P.S. I've read the "Anne" and "Emily" books!) :)
Reply:I will agree with Baby's Breath. You can grow it from seed.
Reply:My guess is that it is some kind of spiraea. Bridal Wreath.
Reply:Try Pavetta lanceolata called the Brides Bush here in RSA .. Hope this helps.
Reply:small and different clumps of roses.
Reply:I know 'baby's breath' is always in bouquets. it's small white flowers. maybe that's it. does it describe the flower at all?
Reply:Crassula hybrid 'Bride Bouquet' 'Polly's Pink' 'Spring Time' is part of this complex.
'Brides Bouquet' will have a rough sandpaper keel. (the underside of the leaf) and I believe Crassula rupestris is one of the parents, no parents named it is a Dick Wright hybrid.
All three came from the same heritage, and there is a slight difference.

Does anyone know the name of a flower that looks like velvet?
Apparently it's burgundy in color, ruffled in texture resembling the front of a poet shirt or in larger sizes a brain (?). Often seen in flower markets in Manhattan. Blooms in October also, so it's a fall flower. Any ideas?

Where can I name a flower after my grandma ?
As far as I know, new cultivars of annuals, perennials, trees, etc. are only named when a new one is developed. The naming is done by the person or company who developed it. I do not know of a way for someone to purchase such naming rights.
You might look into having a bench or structure at a local botanic park dedicated to your grandmother. These are arranged with a donation to the park.

How do I go about learning the name of a flower?
I got a hanging basket, I cant figure out what kind of flower it is ( i got it at Home Depot, so they were no help), to me it looks like a mix between a pansy and a violet. Its blue and purple with a little 'ring' type thing inside the flower. Any ideas?
Thanks

Cut off a piece and take it to a nursery. They will be able to tell you the name. OR take a close up picture.
Reply:Go to k-mart or wal mart or boarders and find a book on annuals, thats what you get in hanging baskets, an you'll find out what you have. annuals are easy to care for but you need to find out if they do better in sun or shade. Good luck
Reply:Go to the library and look in a botanical book of flowers to identify it. They probably have pictures and identifications of most popular flowers out there.

I am trying to find the name a flower that I have heard called thrift or drift.?
Here in Georgia the flowers grow wild mainly around trees. They are small light purple flowers and they grow in waves, clumps or patches. If anyone knows what I am talking about or maybe even has a another nick name for the flowers that would be great! Thanks!
I am trying to find the name a flower that I have heard called thrift or drift.?
Phlox subulata - the common name is creeping phlox or creeping thrift. Check out the link below for photos.
Reply:Thrift is the common name for Armeria maritima. It is a hardy perennial that has grassy tufts that send out a flower spike with a globular type of flower. They do well on the coast and that is why they are also called sea pinks. The colors range from white to dark pinks to dark reddish tones. You can find quite a few cultivars available.

re are so many varieties of flowers. I generally take a snip of the plant into a nursery close to my home. They can identify the flower for you by the flower and its leaves. Good Luck.

But you said this plant had pink flowers. That makes me think it could be impatiens. Impatiens are more commonly grown in gardens and the plant does produce seed pods that will "pop" and curl up to expose the seeds.

Hope everything is ok :) Check out these sights. Hope this helps.

What is the name of the flower that pops and seeds come out when you touch it?
My aunt had a flower(I think it was pink) and it had little bulbs on it. When you touched the bulbs they popped and tiny seeds came out of it.
What is the name of the flower that pops and seeds come out when you touch it?
I have a flower called Love in a Mist. They grow in Blues and White but after they are done flowering little striped balls form that are filled with hundreds of tiny black seeds.
Reply:There are a number of plants with that characteristic. Several folks have mentioned jewelweed, which is a wild plant that has orange or yellow flowers. Jewelweed isn't often grown in gardens.
But you said this plant had pink flowers. That makes me think it could be impatiens. Impatiens are more commonly grown in gardens and the plant does produce seed pods that will "pop" and curl up to expose the seeds.
Reply:They are known as Balsam or Impatiens walleriana.A fleshy stemmed plant that grows to about 70cm and prefers semi shade. They have pink, purple, white, red, orange or combinations of colours on their flowers.

Can anyone name a flower than can be either white or black?
Black could be traded for red (But I personally don't want roses)
Can anyone name a flower than can be either white or black?
Unlike other flowers, black varieties seem to plentiful in the iris family. Bearded iris varieties include 'Hello Darkness' in a near obsidian purple-black color. Bearded Iris like 'Midnight Oil鈥? 鈥楳en in Black鈥?, and 'Hello Darkness' achieve as near to obsidian as a purple-black color can get. For a white try Iris germanica Alba, which is a white form of the species. 'Arctic Age' is a classic white bearded iris.
The Columbine 'Nora Barlow' has double blossoms but it lacks the usual spurs. Aquilegia vulgaris is a deep maroon and white spurred variety known as 'Magpie' or 'William Guiness'. For white I grow the minute Aquilegia flabellata 'nana alba'. This one is very small so needs a prominent position in the rockery. Larger plants are the Aquilegia v.鈥楥lementine White鈥?
'Queen of Night' dwarf tulips are a deep velvety maroon, as is 'Black Diamond'. Supposedly, when tulip breeding was an art several centuries ago, there were black tulips. However these are the closest I've seen commercially available. I've also grown a 'Black' Parrot tulip, which is deep purple and has contorted petals, and 'Black Hero' a double tulip, which is derived from 'Queen of Night', and has flowers resembling a peony. I've also seen a listing for the 'Black Swan Tulip'.
There isn't any such thing as a black sunflower but there are several options for dark colored ones in burgundy shading to brown. 'Floristan' and 'Velvet Queen' are often mentioned. Italian White sunflowers or Helianthus annuus are available.
Salvia discolor, has spikes of dark purple-black flowers and silvery foliage so appear black %26amp; white. Salvia argentea has white felted foliage and small, white, hooded flowers.
Batchelor's Buttons comes with one of the darkest blossoms known as 'Black Ball' or 'Black Boy'. I grow that with the 'evergreen' black lily turf Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens'. White bachelor's buttons can be found in mixed seed packets.
Ornamental Sweet Potato Ipomoea batatas 'Blackie' has black leaves and stems. Ipomoea alba are also available with white flowers.
Rudbeckia occidentalis 'Black Beauty' looks as though someone plucked all of its petals, leaving only a black cone with a golden band around it. 'White Swan' has a white corolla around a greengold center.
One black blossom I haven't found yet is from from Graham鈥檚 hellebores in England. There are several Hellebore orientalis hybrid cultivars ranging from dark red plum to indigo blue-black. I've seen lists including 'Alberich', 'Andromeda', 'Ballard's Black', 'Black Knight', 'Castor', 'Pollux', 'Nigricns', 'Philip Ballard' and 'Sorcerer'. For white there is 'White Lady"
The Black ***** Willow comes from Japan. The catkins are so dark that they appear black against the red twigs. The running bamboo Phylostachys nigra has nearly pitch black culms. There is even a black and gold primrose cleverly called 'Black and Gold', which has a yellow eye at the center of the nearly black petals hat are again edged in gold.

Attn: Southern Oregonians, whats the name of the flower catalog you get in the mail?
Ok, when I lived in southern Oregon, we got these catalogs with gorgeous flowers in them, and we got them in the mail without requests. Does anybody know the name of this catalog? I don't receive it where I am now, and I really would like to know what catalog it is! It has Iris, Roses, Tulips, and other bulbs. I can't remember for the life of me what it was!
Attn: Southern Oregonians, whats the name of the flower catalog you get in the mail?
I think I know the catalog you're thinking of - always beautiful pictures. My favorites for the photographs are Michigan Bulb company and Dutch Gardens. Territorial Seed company is based in Oregon, but their catalog is printed on newsprint and not very colorful.
Here's a great site that lists many of the seed/flower company's websites along with descriptions of their catalogs:

How do I find the name of a flower from its description?
I have been trying to find a web facility that would allow me to find the name of a flower from its description (for example small flower with mauve petals, yellow in the center, grows in shadows, flowers in April in the UK, etc).
I haven't been able to locate any such facility with Google, and wondered if someone could help me with this?
Thanks in advance!
How do I find the name of a flower from its description?
Always beware of people who say there isn't one, because you can never prove a negative.
The thing your looking for is a botanical 'key'. This describes various features of the plant which allow you to follow a yes/no track until you reach the plant which uniquely fits your description. There are quite a number available in hard copy and I would be surprised if there was no copy available on-line.
Reply:There isn't one. For country walks I use Francis Rose's book, "The Wild Flower Key". For more serious study at home I use "The New Flora of the British Isles", by Clive Stace. The first of these two is excellent; it covers all species you are likely to find and is clearly illustrated.
Reply:I don't think there is such a thing.
You can buy wild flower books which have keys (which is what you are looking for) but the RHS assured me (2 years ago) that no such thing in paper or electronic form exists for cultivated plants.

What is the correct name for a flower called refrigerator flower?
You just described Lupine and Cinnamon Basil... Will you post what zone or area you are seeing this flower in?
Mesembryanthemum (meaning "midday flowering") is a genus of plants native to southern Africa. Many species which were formerly placed herein have since been moved into other genera such as Carpobrotus and Delosperma. Sceletium is sometimes included here.
Fig marigold or Icicle plant is a name for any of several South African taxa of Mesembryanthemum which are cultivated as ornamental plants for their showy pink or white flowers. "Pebble plant" or "Ice plant" are other but rather ambiguous common names, usually referring to other Aizoaceae

What is the name for a flower grown in the southern states on a bush during the summertime that is big?
it changes colors from green to whatever color it will be.
What is the name for a flower grown in the southern states on a bush during the summertime that is big?
hibiscus
Reply:Its a Hydrangea. The flowers start out green then change to either blue or pink depending on pH of the soil. Blue comes from acid soil %26amp; pink from alkaline or neutral. You can make the flowers pink by adding lime to the soil, or blue by adding aluminum sulfate.
Reply:Of the answers-- I think Rose of Sharon or crepe myrtle is the answer-- no other information to help identify the plant-- however the Rose of Sharon is a "old timey" plant-- you'll find it in areas where houses have been cleared for whatever reason-- especially around homesteaders home places. The flower looks like a hollyhock-- just one bloom at a time. It along with iris were two of the plants the pioneer women brought to the new land (Oklahoma) that were tough enough to survive-- providing some beauty to these remarkable women.
The crepe myrtle is the "lilac of the south" -- if not trimmed back in the dormant season, this flowering shrub will grow as tall as the eave of your house, although there is a dwarf version now. Colors range from white thru bright pink and finally a true red. You can trim up the branches (take off small branches from the ground up to where you want the flowers to be-- ) and the bark will peel in places making it interesting year round. Or you can just cut the whole thing back when dormant and get loads of blooms the next summer. The blooms themselves are small and look kinda like crepe paper flowers you made in school.-- hence the name-- but the flowers are all together on the end of the branch-- looking somewhat like a lilac.
Both the rose of sharon and the crepe myrtle have small leaves whereas the hydrangea has much larger leaves. Hydrangea likes mostly shade and crepe myrtle and rose of sharon like full sun.
good luck in your search

Reply:Hydrangea
Reply:You might be thinking of Rose of Sharon . . . sometimes these bushes are tree-like, and the flowers range in size and color depending on the variety.
Reply:I think it is a hydrangea or hibiscus.

Can someone name this flower?
We have flowers growing along the side of our house (in Massachusetts). A bright but deep pink color with small yellow polleny centers, they are very fragrant. They have been in bloom a few weeks and continue to bloom. There are many bunches of the flowers on the stem and each blossom is about the size of a quarter (think lilac bunching, but larger flowers). The leaves on the stem are long and arrow shaped - kind of like a canoe shape, I guess. We are moving and want to buy some to plant at the new house. Can someone help identify this flower?

Sounds like Sweet William Dianthus Barbatus to me. Here's some info and photos ... and it is blooming right now in Southern NH too. It's a biennial, blooming usually in the second summer.

Another idea is various other Dianthus, like cheddar pinks. Or tall stocks, which have bunches of flowers that are incredibly scented.
http://seeds.thompson-morgan.com/us/en/p...
(you can look through thompson and morgan for the others too... they're an amazing catalog with yummy photos. Great for winter browsing.)

Funny answers are always welcomed.
If someone was to name a flower after you what flower would you choose and what would it be called?
I would be an Orgasmic Gilly, whos flowers would be multiple %26amp; so fragrant, men would want to bury their faces in them!!
Reply:I would like it to be a Rose and the colour an mixture of pink and red . and call it a Pervert Rose. I can just imagine the Queens face at the Chelsea Flower show when one of the lakkies says and this is the new rose "The Pervert " and she answers " I must apologise for Philip I know he is but I have been married to him for so long he will be gone soon tut tut"
Reply:Well if you can find a flower with no name, I would name it after you Creamy Delight. Sounds more like a cake though.
I like roses, because they always remind me of good times I cheered my girl up. Not sure what to call them though...
Reply:I kinda like all the names of the flowers already, and I wouldn;t want to change them,
But If they "discovered" a flower that is pale yet deep green, then I think they should Call it "Jade" =)
Reply:My name is Rose.
So I'd like to have lily of the vallies become Rose.
Because it just makes sense, in an odd sort of way, ya know?

What Flower name ( starts with 'J' ) do you think is suitable for a developement area?
For example, Jasmine Garden...
With the name , J............ Garden, how is the impact on pursuing a person to decide to buy the house on that developement area? What's your opinion ?
THANK YOU. : )
What Flower name ( starts with 'J' ) do you think is suitable for a developement area?
Jupiters, great for what you need and beautiful, yes it is very suitable for a developement area....Jupiter Garden.
Reply:Jonquil is a 'j' flower and doesn't sound as feminie as Jasmine. Pair it up with different names like Jonquil Ridge, Jonquil Estates, Jonquil Knoll, Jonquil Meadow, Jonquil Terrace, Jonquil Court....
Reply:Juniper, not a flower but.....Jade Garden...a chinese resturant....I like Jasmine Hills better
Reply:I think naming subdivisions is kinda stupid since you asked. It has no bearing on whether I will buy a house or not in that area. What will make a difference is if there is a very restrictive covenant, which all the fancy names in the world will not cure. I do not need someone telling me what color of plants and flowers I'm allowed, or how many shrubs or trees I'm 'allowed'. Also, price and location will impact me more than clever names.
Reply:jacaranda garden.
Reply:Jasmine Garden sounds like a kind of bubble bath if you ask me
What about Juniper Something?

How do you pronounce the flower name kalanchoe?
I think the proper pronounciation is calankoee, my friend says it is calansho, who is buying dinner?
How do you pronounce the flower name kalanchoe?
My hort professors always told us students to pronounce plant names however we felt comfortable saying them.
I have heard Kalanchoe pronounced cal-an-sho, cal-an-cho, or cal-an-co-ee. I prefer cal-an-cho. No one is gonna bust your balls for miss pronouncing it. You will, however, probably prefer to pronounce it the way your associates do so you are all on the same page.
Reply:I've worked in a couple plant nurseries over the years. I've heard it pronounced two ways (there is probably no official way, unless you speak Latin):
(ku-lan-cho), with the "ku" sounding like the "cu" in "cut," the "lan" sounding like the "lan" in "land," and the "cho" making the long "o" sound.
(ku-lon-cho), the same as above, but with the "lon" sounding more like the "lon" in "long."
Reply:Your friend is closer to the truth. It's pronounced: Ka - lan - shoe

Flower name?
My sister and I were discussing flowers..lol...... but neway, we cant seem to figure out the name of a flower. It has a long stem (not calla lilly) and the petals are long and droop over.. (not a lot of bunched up petals just a few long ones) I've usually seen them in white but Im sure they come in other colors. Any idea what flower it might be? Thanks for any suggestions....
